How to submit cruise photos for the album
The best way to display groups of photos (and the easiest) is for each photo to have a
descriptive filename to serve as a picture caption. The index will show each filename
below its associated thumbnail. Clicking on the thumbnail will display the full sized
photo. There will also be a Prev/Next system for easy browsing of each album.
Therefore the steps for submission should be:
1) Browse and select the photos you wish to share and copy them into a separate directory.
2) Do any cropping and/or correction using Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro, etc. If your photos
are very large (more than 1200 pixels in any dimension) you may want to reduce their size
to make them easier to view through a browser. A good size for "full sized" web
based photos is about 800 pixels wide (in landscape aspect). The image format should be
JPEG/JPG with at least 12-bit color (16 million colors).
3) Most digital cameras us a serial number based naming scheme. Rename the file to a
descriptive name that describes the photo's content and the people shown. For example
rename "IMG003481.jpg" to "Formal_Night_Dinner1.jpg" or
"Bob&Jim_PlayingCribbage.jpg". Avoid using imbedded spaces in the filename
(some server/browser combination don't handle this well). Instead use the '_' (underscore)
or '-' (hyphen) to separate words. You may also use upper case letters to make words
distinctive i.e. "FormalNightDinner1.jpg".
4) Put the picture files in a ZIP file. They can be uploaded for HTML conversion by
clicking here.
The login is "cruiser" and the password is
also "cruiser". The form also prompts for your name so I know who is to be
credited.
The uploaded photos do not get displayed right away, it is merely transfered to a secure
directory so I can create HTML pages from the contents.
If you would like to have descriptive captions, include a text file containing the
filenames and text to be captioned. You can also specify the by-line and optional email
for your section of the album.
